I’m moving!

Yup it’s true. I’m packing my bags and moving on. The good news is you’re all invited! Lots of people have been posting recently and most of the feedback (unless you’re into amdram…in all senses of the word) is really positive.

So I’ve decided to move to a host with a bit more freedom in the types of material I can post. It’s sooooooooooo exciting.

This will be my last post here but you can find all the old stuff and ALL THE NEW STUFF such as videos, mp3s at www.iomcandy.com

God save the Queen..at The Office

Oooooooooooooooooh! I’m so excited. The Pistols are playing The Office on 16 September. It’s not the real Sex Pistols, obviously.

But they are a damned good tribute band from London. And at only £7.50 it’s very good value for an excellent night out!

The warm up act is Shaun Hogg who supposedly is into punk and ska, but I have to admit, I’ve not heard of him. Has anyone out there?

Isle of Man actor in ‘Risen’

An young actor from Peel has been cast in the Briitsh movie Risen, the story of boxing legend Howard Winstone. He lost his fingers (gross!) and still went on to win a whole bunch of major boxing titles. John Noble and Stuart Brennen also star in the movie which is filming in south Wales.

Grainne Joughin went to school at Queen Elizabeth II High School and hung out at the Manx Multimedia Centre. Since then she’s worked in the theatre, on TV and in films.

Grainne was quoted in the local paper, “This is a really big role for me, and it was quite daunting on the first day, stepping onto the set, and it’s just wow.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself! We are all soooooooo proud of you Grainne.

Okay, so today I was sticking with my boycott of the Terrace Chippie because of the outrageous price for fish & chips (£4.50!) and decided to go to the competition. Off I went to the Islander on Bucks Road. And guess what?!! They also charge £4.50. Co-incidence? Perhaps not.

Could there be a F&C pricing cartel here in the Isle of Man? Come on folks. Let us know. Where can we get some fish and chips at a reasonable price?

InsideOut & Terrace Chippie down and out

I was out for a stroll down Bucks Road earlier today and was surprised to see that InsideOut that cool little gift shop near Christian Road has gone out of business! What a shame. I used to like dropping in there to poke around the cool stuff. I wonder what happened? Maybe they’re just moving? I hope so.

And, strolling a bit further up the road I stopped in a the Terrace Chippie where I was charged the highway robbery price of £4.50 for fish and chips! Can you imagine? How galling! Hey Terrace Chippie owner…you’ve got fried fish and potatoes on offer, not filet mignon and caviar! I had a very lovely sit down meal a the The Bay View Hotel in Port St Mary at the weekend that cost me only a pound more. And it wasn’t served in newspaper either.

I’m pretty sure that’s the second price increase in a year and I’m boycotting the place till they knock at least 60p off the price of an order of fish & chips. Join me! It will be sooooooooooooooo cool if we can make this happen.

Candy is always letting her readers know what’s cool and where to go. Now I need some info from you.

Where in the Isle of Man can you get the best fresh produce? I mean, like a farmers’ market. Where do you folks go to buy locally-grown tomatoes and other salad freshies? At this time of year, the stuff that Tesco’s imports just doesn’t cut it. It all tastes sooooooooooooooooo hot house.

Rock the IOMrock?

Hey, have you heard there’s a move afoot to get a MAJOR music fesitval happening here next summer? Douglas Council has approved the idea, in principle. If it goes ahead we’ll have about 35,000 people visiting our fair isle next summer to see such top music acts as U2, Coldplay, Arctic Monkey at our very own music festival.
