Isle of Man Candy

{J f, 2006}   Something’s fishy!

Okay, so today I was sticking with my boycott of the Terrace Chippie because of the outrageous price for fish & chips (£4.50!) and decided to go to the competition.  Off I went to the Islander on Bucks Road. And guess what?!!  They also charge £4.50. Co-incidence?  Perhaps not.

Could there be a F&C pricing cartel here in the Isle of Man?  Come on folks.  Let us know. Where can we get some fish and chips at a reasonable price?

fish & chipsI was out for a stroll down Bucks Road earlier today and was surprised to see that InsideOut that cool little gift shop near Christian Road has gone out of business!  What a shame.  I used to like dropping in there to poke around the cool stuff.  I wonder what happened? Maybe they’re just moving?  I hope so.

And, strolling a bit further up the road I stopped in a the Terrace Chippie where I was charged the highway robbery price of £4.50 for fish and chips!   Can you imagine?  How galling!  Hey Terrace Chippie owner…you’ve got fried fish and potatoes on offer, not filet mignon and caviar!   I had a very lovely sit down meal a the The Bay View Hotel in Port St Mary at the weekend that cost me only a pound more.  And it wasn’t served in newspaper either.

I’m pretty sure that’s the second price increase in a year and I’m boycotting the place till they knock at least 60p off the price of an order of fish & chips.   Join me! It will be sooooooooooooooo cool if we can make this happen.

{J f, 2006}   Loverly tomatoes

TomatoCandy is always letting her readers know what’s cool and where to go.  Now I need some info from you.

Where in the Isle of Man can you get the best fresh produce?  I mean, like a farmers’ market.  Where do you folks go to buy locally-grown tomatoes and other salad freshies?  At this time of year, the stuff that Tesco’s imports just doesn’t cut it.  It all tastes sooooooooooooooooo hot house.

Let us know!

{J f, 2006}   Rock the IOMrock?

Hey, have you heard there’s a move afoot to get a MAJOR music fesitval happening here next summer?  Douglas Council has approved the idea, in principle.  If it goes ahead we’ll have about 35,000 people visiting our fair isle next summer to see such top music acts as U2, Coldplay, Arctic Monkey at our very own music festival. Arctic Monkeys I’m soooooooooooooooo excited. You can click here to register your interest in getting tickets and here to see who is in the running to appear.  Come on everyone!  Show your support for the fab idea!  Let’s make it happen!

Thanks to Lynne Gumbleton for telling me about this!

It was pretty obvious from the time the Chippendales took the stage last night at the Gaiety Theatre that we weren’t in for a night of song and dance excellence. (Actually, even before they took the stage we knew, they were flogging t-shirts up and down the aisles).

But the boys are soooooooooooooooooooooooo fit, it really doesn’t matter.  My g*d what beautiful bodies! Who cares if they can’t dance or sing?  Their costumes were cliche (read firemen, cowboys, Grease); the lip synching amateur. The abs were hard and the pecks….well impeccable. abs

I wish they wouldn’t call me honey; but I’m glad they let me squeeze their biceps.  One had such gorgeous long blond hair, I would have gladly rolled naked in it, if he’d let me.

There was one part of the performance that was conspicuous by its absence.  But who cares…we had fun anyway.

{J f, 2006}   TK Maxx opens tomorrow

Yes 2moro the Big Day finally arrives.  The Isle of Man’s very own TK Maxx store on Strand Street opens its doors!  I’m soooooooooooooo excited.TK Maxx

They have loads and loads of designer labels, fab brands at way-low prices.  They have tons of boho chic, girly glam and uber cool fashions. Not to mention all those belts, shoes and handbags!

I’m gonna get me some.

Hey everybody.  I just found a new Website that’s trying to establish itself as the on line “go to” resource for all things Isle of Man.

It’s still v new and hasn’t got a lot of content yet, but it could be pretty useful if it catches on. It has news headlines, weather and a business directory covering everything from gigs to pubs to builders.

Has anyone out there used it?
